Getting into a good hair routine from start will not only save you money, but will also give you that glam as you let your goddess shine from within. Good hair habits equal longer lasting hair extension.

Product to avoid

One of the most important things to remember is to ensure you are using the right product for your hair extension, be sure to always read the label and check the ingredients to ensure you are using sulphate free shampoo.

Hair Maintenance

Hair extensions are sewn, microlinked or taped in, you can wash them along with your natural hair in the shower, but be gentle to avoid loosening your extensions. If you are too rough with them they will not last you long enough. Treat extension hairs the same way you will care for your own natural hair.

Shampooing your hair before installation is highly recommend.

  • Use good quality shampoo and conditioning products – sulphate and Parabens free shampoo.
  • Prepare with lukewarm water and soak the hair.
  • Dab /sponge the hair gently until it bubbles.
  • Do not massage.
  • Conditioning your hair is very important to keep it soft and manageable.
  • Apply conditioner and comb hair, starting with the ends working your way up to your weft.
  • Use sulfate-free leave-in conditioner for wavy, curly and colored extensions.
  • Comb the hair smoothly, air-dry the hair or use blow dry, but avoid using high temperature as this will blow away the hair moisture, which makes the hair dry and get spilt ends easily.
  • Use high quality gel, curly foam or hair spray to keep the curls in place, but make sure to wash your hair regularly and not leave in these products for too long.
  • Olive oil will be a good choice to keep the hair looking healthy.
  • Style as desired.
Daily routine

Brush or comb throughout before style, starting at the bottom and then detangling near the roots to brush through your hair, this helps nutrients from the scalp get to the end hair maintaining an even sheen.

Using styling aids that are sulfate-free and alcohol-free is recommended.

Bed time routine
  • Brush your hair through and braid into one loose large braid at the back, not suitable for deep curls, or you can get a silk wrap and wrap it around a low ponytail from the tie to the ends.
  • Undo your braid when you wake up.
  • Before brushing your hair make sure your dab small water into the hair.
  • Comb through beginning to the end and make sure you work your way up to the root.
  • Styles to your desired.
Protect Your Hair While Exercising

When running or doing aerobic exercises, tie your hair up in a ponytail. This not only keeps your neck cool but reduces the amount of sweat and oil buildup that will damage your extension.

It is possible to swim while wearing extension, but avoid long exposure to chlorine and salt water. Wearing a swimming cap is the best way to ensure your extensions are protected.
